Architecture
Compared to other ancient civilizations the Shang aren't especially known for their architecture. They were known to build splendid tombs, by use of public works(which weren't actually for the public), but that was by far probably their greatest architectural achievements. The architects of the Shang period built houses of timber over rammed-earth floors, with walls of wattle and daub, and roofs of thatch. Tombs were dug in clay, and their walls show traces of paintings which strongly resembled some of the ornamentation and animal shapes reflected in the outstanding bronze work of the period.
